Adding Products to Your Inventory

Adding products to your inventory is one of the first steps in setting up Tracksales. This guide covers everything you need to know about adding products.
1. Basic Product Information
When adding a product, you'll need:
- Product Name: Clear, descriptive name
- SKU (Stock Keeping Unit): Unique identifier for tracking
- Description: Detailed product description (optional but recommended)
- Category: Organize products by category
2. Pricing Information
Set up your pricing:
- Purchase Price: Cost to acquire the product
- Selling Price: Price you sell to customers
- Wholesale Price: If you offer bulk pricing (optional)
- Tax Settings: Configure if product is taxable
3. Stock Management
Configure inventory tracking:
- Initial Quantity: Starting stock level
- Unit of Measurement: Pieces, kg, liters, etc.
- Reorder Point: Minimum stock level before reordering
- Reorder Quantity: How much to order when low
4. Product Variants
For products with variations (sizes, colors, etc.):
- Enable variants when creating the product
- Add variant options (e.g., Size: Small, Medium, Large)
- Set prices and stock for each variant
- Manage variants from the product page
5. Bulk Import
For adding many products at once:
- Go to Inventory → Import Products
- Download the CSV template
- Fill in your product data
- Upload the CSV file
- Review and confirm import

Use clear, consistent SKU codes. This makes it easier to search for products and maintain your inventory. Consider using a format like CATEGORY-ITEM-001.
